The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission (NGPC) GIS team received the 2013 Esri Special Achievement in GIS Award at the recent Esri International Users Conference. They were awarded for their statewide GIS trails network project. It is a comprehensive mapping and information system to provide trail users up-to-date information about amenities, scenic points, restrooms, and other facilities along trails. It also allows users to download information to handheld GPS units. The development team involved at NGPC included Michelle Stryker, Sudhir Ponnappan, and Virlyn Bolte. Funding for the project was awarded by the Federal Highway Administration for the Recreational Trails Program (RTP).
