The eHealth Council was created by the Nebraska Information Technology Commission on Feb. 22, 2007 to facilitate discussions among eHealth initiatives in the state and to make recommendations to the NITC regarding the adoption and interoperability of eHealth technologies. eHealth technologies include telehealth, electronic health records, electronic prescribing, clinical decision support, computerized provider order entry, and health information exchange. The widespread adoption of eHealth technologies is expected to reduce health care costs, reduce medical errors, and improve the quality of care.
Foster the collaborative and innovative use of eHealth technologies through partnerships between public and private sectors, and to encourage communication and coordination among eHealth initiatives in Nebraska.

• Identify private resources and public/private partnerships to fund efforts to adopt interoperable healthcare information technology;
• Support and promote the use of telehealth as a vehicle to improve healthcare access to Nebraskans;
• Recommend best practices or policies for state government and private entities to promote the adoption of interoperable healthcare information technology by the healthcare delivery system in Nebraska.
