Initiatives

On March 15, 2010, the Nebraska Information Technology Commission received a $6.8 million health information exchange grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT. The State of Nebraska is partnering with NeHII and the Electronic Behavioral Health Information Network (eBHIN) to implement the State Health Information Exchange Cooperative Agreement.

NeHII

NeHII is Nebraska's lead health information exchange with over 20 hospitals and over 3000 health care providers currently participating. Over two million patient records are available through the system.

Electronic Behavioral Health Information Network (eBHIN)

eBHIN is currently developing a network to exchange behavioral health information among behavioral health providers with patient consent. eBHIN began rolling out its HIE functionality in Region 5 in southeast Nebraska in July 2012. Implementation in Region 6 in the Omaha area is currently underway.

Nebraska Statewide Telehealth Network

The Nebraska Statewide Telehealth Network is one of the most extensive telehealth networks in the country, connecting over 110 sites, including rural hospitals, regional medical centers, Omaha metropolitan hospitals, public health departments, and bioterrorism labs in Nebraska. Use of the Nebraska Statewide Telehealth Network has continued to grow with 2,000 clinical encounters conducted between Sept. 1, 2012 and January 31, 2013.
