Network Nebraska-Education is recognized by NASCIO

NASCIO 2013 Recognition Award

The National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) recently selected Network Nebraska-Education as its top project in the category of Cross-Boundary Collaboration and Partnerships at their annual conference and awards ceremony in Philadelphia.

Network Nebraska-Education was one of 12 state entries in this category. With the State of Nebraska and University of Nebraska cooperating in management and administration, and K-12 working alongside higher education in a completely voluntary, self-funded project, Network Nebraska-Education has distinguished itself among its peers.

Network Nebraska-Education has one of the highest educational participation levels of any statewide network, with 89% of public K-12 districts and 94% of the 17 Educational Service Units. One hundred percent of public higher education is participating in Network Nebraska-Education, along with 50% of independent colleges.

With all these educational entities working together, the average unit cost for wide area network circuits has decreased by 39% over the past five years, and the unit cost of the statewide contract for Internet access has decreased by 98% over the past six years. Network Nebraska-Education annually supports the delivery of over 500 semester video distance learning courses to high schools and colleges.

Nebraska was also recognized for two other NASCIO project finalists, Nebraska Capitol Live Mobile App (PDF) in Fast Track Solutions, and Handicap Parking Permit Application and Management System (PDF) in Government to Citizen (G2C).

As part of the nomination process, the Office of the CIO was required to submit a short video to inform and entertain, and that video is linked to the NASCIO YouTube website.
